Professor Christopher Wiebe
Canada Research Chair in Quantum Materials Discovery
Professor Chris Wiebe was a faculty member at Florida State University from 2005 - 2009 before returning to his alma mater to establish a world-class research facility at the University of Winnipeg. His formal training is in solid state chemistry (Ph.D. with John Greedan) and condensed matter physics (M. Sc. with Bruce Gaulin). He is the recipient of several awards, including the Polanyi prize in Physics, a Killam PDF, an NSERC PDF, and the PAI Award for Teaching and Research. He was named the Tier II Canada Research Chair in Quantum Materials Discovery in March 2013.

Harlyn has recently attained his Ph.D whilst working in Dr. Wiebe's lab. He is interested in the synthesis and characterization of new langasite and langasite-related structures. Harlyn currently holds an NSERC Vanier scholarship for his graduate studies.

Dr. Haidong Zhou
Dr. Zhou completed his Ph.D. with Dr. John Goodenough at the University of Texas Austin. He was a post-doctoral fellow in Dr. Wiebe's laboratory for 4 years before being promoted to a scholar scientist at the NHMFL. He is currently an Assistant Professor of Physics at University of Tennessee, Knoxville.

Kanisha Cruz-Kan
Kenisha recently graduated from the University of Winnipeg. She completed an NSERC summer research assistantship in 2012 and is now in medical school.
John Janik
John completed his Ph. D. at Florida State University in 2008 working on hidden order in heavy fermion compounds. After being a Carnegie Fellow at the Geophysical Laboratory at the Carnegie Institute for Science, John started his own company growing CVD diamond. He currently resides in Florida.

Sanhita Ghosh
Sanhita is a Ph. D. student sharing her supervision with Dr. Hill at the NHMFL. She completed her Ph.D thesis on the magnetoptical properties of new frustrated langasite and honeycomb lattice materials. She is now working at Intel.

Ben Conner
Ben is a Ph.D. student finishing his thesis in Dr. Wiebe's lab at FSU. After Dr. Wiebe returned to Canada, he was co-supervised by Dr. Luis Balicas at the NHMFL. Ben has lectured at Armstrong Atlantic University in Savannah, Georgia. He is currently a scientist working at Oak Ridge National Laboratory.

Brenden Van Wyk
Brenden completed his B. Sc. thesis with Dr. Wiebe on the orbitally ordered system Sr2VO4. His work consisted of the synthesis of doped materials in this series, and their investigation using neutron and x-ray scattering techniques. Brenden is currently a graduate student at the University of Saskatchewan.

Alison Smith
Alison completed her B. Sc. thesis with Dr. Wiebe on the critical behaviour of a 1D antiferromagnet. She finished her project in the Spring of 2011.

Chris Krzyszczyk
Chris is a senior undergraduate in the Chemistry Department at the University of Winnipeg. He completed his honours project in 2012 synthesizing new mulitferroic candidates based on iron triangular units related to the dugganite structure.

Avi Stoller
Avi is an undergraduate student that has worked in Dr. Wiebe's lab on new 2D frustrated compounds. He is graduating from the University of Winnipeg in 2017.
Thomas Johnson
Alannah Hallas
Alannah just completed her M.Sc. thesis working on the synthesis and characterization of new magnetic pyrochlore oxides including highly correlated spin ices and dynamic spin ice materials. She is also studying a 2D triangular antiferromagnetic with quasi-spin liquid behavior. Her research involves single crystal growth, heat capacity and susceptibility measurements, and various X-ray and neutron scattering techniques. Alannah was supported by an NSERC graduate scholarship for her M.Sc. She completed her Ph.D as a Vanier scholar co-supervised by Prof. C. Wiebe, Prof. G. M. Luke, and Prof. B. D. Gaulin. After a postdoctoral appointment at Rice University, she was hired by UBC as an assistant professor of physics.

Paul Sarte
Paul is the recipient of the first Sir William Stephenson scholarship at the University of Winnipeg and has recently graduated as the Valedictorian of his class (2013). After working for several summers with Dr. Wiebe as an NSERC USRA, Paul worked in Dr. Wiebe's lab for his M.Sc. He is completed a Ph.D with Prof. Paul Attfield in Edinburgh but still working with Dr. Wiebe on projects.

Arzoo Sharma
Arzoo is a B.Sc. student working on new frustrated compounds in Dr. Wiebe's lab. She completed her undergraduate thesis in the Quantum Materials group during 2012-2013. After completing her undergraduate courses in the Fall of 2013, Arzoo started her M.Sc. She completed her M.Sc. thesis in early 2017 and is currently employed by the Government of Canada.
Abigail Chochinov
Abigail is an undergraduate student working on a rare earth frustrated magnet with a hyper kagomé lattice. She is entering her fourth year of study at the University of Winnipeg and plans on continuing her study in physical chemistry.
